  1. I haven't seen Karaka poisoning like this for over 30 years but then I have avoided coastal sites because of this problem.The bees on the ground are still alive and this is absolutely classic Karaka poisoning. I did anticipate that Karaka could be a problem in this apiary but they had no problems last year. I feed sugar prior to the Karaka flowering but for some reason some of the hives are not take much of it and these were the worst affected hives. The hives have lost about a third of their strength on average in the last three weeks. I do have a short video which shows the poisoned bees behaviour but I do not have the technical skills to get it on screen. (I would appreciate some helpful advice). Karaka does not poison the brood, only the adult bees but of course brood production is well down because of reduced bee numbers
