  1. Hello everybody, I am a French Warré hobbyist beekeeper and author of the Small Hive Project (www.smallhiveproject.eu) This non-commercial project is about a small horizontal hive that I designed for backyard beekeeping. Starting from spring 2018, I will populate 4 copies of this hive and share my experience on the website. You may wish to participate in the project by building your own copy of the hive. To do this, you may build it from scratch OR transform one of your Warré hives. Independent experimental data is necessary to evaluate the real potential of the
  2. I’ve been bee keeping for around 2 years now (DECA certified), started off with 1 hive and have slowly increased my hive numbers to around 30 hives through splitting and the purchase of the odd nuc here and there. We are a dairy farming family (sharemilking) who have shifted to a new farm on the West Coast that also happens to have quite large areas of Manuka and Kanuka. I have been following this message board for quite a while now and find it a valuable resource. I have a number of questions that I would like to put to the group. The property is quite large around 800 hectares (450
  3. Hey beeks! A beek from a backyard apiary 500 metres down the road from my two hives wants to downsize, so he’s offered to sell me a couple of his hives. My question is how can I get the bees to my apiary successfully without having them all go back to his apiary?
  4. Here is your December 2015 Apiary diary. Let us know what is going on in your hives, so that others can see what they should expect to see within their hives at this time of the year. Photos and video welcome - use the media gallery and share codes if you want to. If a good story develops, then we may pull it out into its own topic, to make it more easily available to others.
  5. Hi there Just wondering whether is possible to paint boxes that have been paraffin dipped? I've read that you can paint them when the wax is hot and the heat draws in the paint and wax. But haven't found anything about painting something that has been dipped previously (I'm buying it pre-dipped)... If I can paint them, would I need undercoat?
