Is there a place on this forum for people advertising or requesting Apiary Sites? I am interested in placing hives in Auckland ideally on a large block, with sufficient privacy away from houses and neighbours. If you know of anybody wanting bees on their land then let me know.
Hello all together, We are a semi- professional apiary in the middle of Germany and looking for volunteers during the coming European season. Help is required between May- September. We have about 40 hives in different sizes, have two honey harvests during the season, practice queen breeding for ourselves and run a beekeeper equipment shop. Also we grow our own vegetables and live a vegan diet. We are registered at Workaway and WWOOF and host volunteers since 2 years. You will have your own bed- and bathroom and the food is included as well. We expect you to help us 5 hours/ day about 5 days/ week. It´s a good way to escape from the NZ winter and make new experiences and increase your knowledge about beekeeping. The preferred staying time is between 3 and 4 weeks. We do try to live as eco friendly as we can and request that people respect this by not wasting food, water and electricity. Please note that this is not a way to have a cheap holiday, we want you to get involved with our projects. We are looking forward to hear from you and looking for a Skype meeting with you. Best, Olli
Hey folks, I'm after some advice on setting up my new apiary site. I've fenced off a space 7x6 metres, and it's on enough of a slope to be a hazard when hives will be stacked high. I've been thinking either to stick 4 or 5 pallets in there with 4 hives per pallet, or to have them in rows, sitting on beams which are bolted to driven posts. I don't have much experience with landscaping, (nor fencing ), but I suspect the pallets will require more digging. Also, please share if you have some insight into commercial style 4 hive pallets vs rows etc. thanks!
German Klink posted a topic in Beginner BeekeepersHi guys, I am a newbie in beekeeping and unfortunately not really have place to put a hive yet. Are there Beekepers in the area of Howick / Cockle Bay or East Tamaki (Auckland) who know a place or have a place for one more hive? It would also be cool to know somebody from the area to talk a little bit about the whole topic with. cheers
