Wow those are nice dark bees. None of mine are that colour anymore. I once had a Daykel queen that had workers like that

I'm kind of hoping your new splits produce queens with gentle bees. You know the type where the bees don't even know you're there when you work them and sit tight on the frames ;)
I watched your video today and I wondered how your swarm got AFB given you would have followed best practise and not fed. I gather swarms are so effective at building a new hive that they may well be more likely to rob out because of this. Thanks for a great video

No it isn't. Those are field bees returning home in a hurry. Heavy flow, or bad weather close by.
Bees orientating hover in front of the hive for a while, looking at where they came from :)

Or is it a trick of the camera? Can't see handles on the box
Hi @Beegirl8 . Welcome along. I'm curious as to why you have your hive entrance in the side rather than the front please ?

Thanks @frazzledfozzle . Out of interest, can queens emerge with paralysis virus?

However, I'm not sure what her condition is . Hopefully someone that has seen more than I have picks up on this conversation for a definite answer
Yes, that is her. See how tidily she holds her wings compared to the other bees.
Intercaste is the name I was looking for
She's way too small and has no hair
Oh wow, that's an odd looking queen. It looks like one of those 'in between ' bees @Dave Black has described

@dansar that's exactly where I learned to do them. I dip my fingers in water with each new end to get a better grip. Works a treat (y)
