This course answered all my questions and gave me the knowledge to become a much more confident beekeeper. I’ve been to ‘evening classes’ before and there has always been a huge number of dropouts but I think this course would have had at least a 90% completion rate. Kim and Carol were brilliant and never boring.” Sally Petersen, ABC member. 5. Hi, As you might see by my profile photo posted in 2011 I have kept bees in the city for several season as a free service to montion the health of them in the city. I have had several seasons of harvesting honey, (its flavour is not that great) yes I have had good harvest collected, but there is always only so much of a food source, has the hotel planted for bees? I have also been witness to overpopulated areas. Do you know what flower sources there are in the city over the whole year and will it be enough for more beehives placed in the city? Are you aware of spraying programes in the city?
  6. grrrrrrrr:mask: Its fine for beehives to be everywhere and making loads of money from renting them, BUT there is only soooooo much food around the city!!!!
  7. No the stack of boxes is not high enough to hit the garage roof, try garage roof crushed in by a very huge gum tree, reckon their the only thing stopping the whole roof caving in, though the insurance company dont believe it could be so.... but please dont tip over!!
  8. That's surprising no email noted through correspondence of club committee.
  9. Just read this post -how did you get on???
  10. Prime site shows there is two screening of the show and the next one is Friday 7.30. Thought it a bit of a- nothing much. Did have my first txt within minutes though "saw you" yeh I'm the only one on my butt, on a beehive watching the queen grafting course typical was the reaction from some lying on the couch in the lounge:lol
  11. Just saw this one for all you manuka honey peoples:) How bees became big business: the rise of the £30 jar of honey - Telegraph hope this works:confused:
  12. Hows your project going ? Did you get some Auckland Beekeepers coming forward?
  13. Hi Tony, while you have just seen posted the current bylaws. theses are up for review and the proposed by-laws are under this heading in the forum: Proposed Animal Management Bylaw - Auckland | NZ Beekeepers Forum Hope you can see them. The council is very bee friendly if your bees don't cause any problem. There are a few beekeepers already by the gulf club in that area that I know of.
  14. So tried beekeeping in the rain, thunder and lightening today:eek: - is it summer? Had hoped to take a box of capped honey off a few hives as they looked near ready two weeks ago, most still not ready. some I got half boxes, but not a happy beekeeper this season, no bush honey like previous years. they are already bringing in much lighter honey - if there is any. Did 30 cut comb today though to met an order, was really not wanting to cut up the new comb to package:unsure: as would rather have poured honey into jars and put frames back in so they wouldn't need to put any nectar collected into drawing out new comb again, ######. Recovering from the first poor survival rate of splits and introduced q cells, and terrible layers of some queens, now just want this beep beep rain and wind to stop, and no humidity please.
  15. Without writing too much because I can't:mask::cool: The beekeeper is being contacted and there was just the usual varroa PMS, there was some stacks of hiveware. I think It would be nice to present an apiary in public view as a tidy cared fore apiary;)
