  17. Wouldnt the syrup still need to go through the process of been eaten and regurgitated to change into more of a honey like substance? Capped sugar honey tastes quite abit different to thick sugar syrup.
  18. How did you go about cutting the honey dew off your hives midway through a flow @Stoney? Interested as im thinking of giving it ago this season, previously iv only relied on bee escapes.

  20. I have heard of queens being killed or disapear if theyve been disturbed to early after laying eggs, havnt had in myself but @john berry mentioned it earlier on in another tread. Leave them till theyve got sealed brood then she should be settled and up an running.
  21. Yeah mate , theres the odd hive ill still keep a close eye on, but i think the rest seem ok at this stage. I might swarm check everything every 2 weeks this month and see how it goes, iv just been tipping the second box, if i see anything swarm like i rip through for a better look. Bees are doing their thing atm and most of my hives have new queens. Theres always a few thatl swarm regardless on what you do but iv got to value my time as im not full time beek just yet.
  22. Cheers @john berry so your prety certain the sticky substance is likey to be their honey that theyve offloaded everywhere?
  23. Hey fellow beekeepers, im looking at some advice on when can you be confident your bees have stopped thinking of swarming. The bees are on their main honey flow and i havnt found any eggs in queen cells for well over a month. Im thinking i should be able to leave them to it now and just keep an eye on their honey boxes. What are other beekeepers thoughts? Most hives are running two brood boxes so theyve got plenty of room.
  24. Maybe they did beard and blocked the entrance, those hive doctor nucs only have small entrances
  25. Theres a good chance they overheated as it was a really hot day nearly 30degrees in parts of canterbury. i would of expected them to exit the hive an beard on the outside or abscond. Its the stickyness thats killing them its all over the inside of the hive.
