  1. morpork, Are you selling this honey, nowhere on here say;s what part of nz you are from, p.s if you want more i have some
  2. so is this honey passed over a hot surface like pasteurization, but not as hot maybe !
  3. If your keeping hives in town or built up areas swarming is the number one thing you need to be on top off at this time of year, a course that doesn't cover swarming i would very much dout the value of it. we have hives on peoples home sites right next to fences beside pathways etc never had a problem, noise not a problem, as some one said you do need to bear in mind where cloths lines are and the bees flight paths are not in direct line to where people are walking, also bear in mind the person mowing the lawns,
  4. have had 4 in as many days, only one from my hives, so all good
  5. Thermalised, now thats a new one i've not heard about, what is it and how is it done and what is the purpose of it pls
  6. yer, have not seen any other types of creamers so don't no any better ideas,
  7. It has no chiller and we have never used one, the honey is once creamed and package is stored in a cool room, we have only ever had one batch of creamed get the frosted look and this was bush for some reason, we are making a batch now and hope to do another couple before summer, we dont creamed in summer, it would be easy enough to add a few rounds of cooling tube around it if you had too
  8. yes pretty much just a stirrer with four bits of flat steel attached these are set a different angles to push the honey up and down, seems to work very well
  9. were those strips put in in early autumn or refreshed during the winter
  10. lots a good luck, not sure what your weather has been like over the winter, but we have had a lot of wet or cloudy days and found our strips got very damp and quite wet feeling, we had our strips in the corners by the brood, not cut across the middle like those in the pic, i have run out of ideas on these lose's it just seems so weird
  11. I think the oxy staples are ok for a spring/summer treatment and then go back to bayverol for autumn winter treatments, this is what we will be doing
  12. I do'nt think it has any thing to do with 1080 or honey dew, we have had quite a few lose's like james, but our hives have been know where around 1080 or honey dew, my bet it has to do with the queen
  13. really need to see what was in the results that MPI are holding back,
  14. they hold some thing like a bout 50 kg turn it on and it will run for 5 mins every hour and will keep going for 90 hours, you just stop when you think its ready, although theres been the odd time time we've got busy so its just a reset and let it run till we are ready, did hear of a person just kept theres going and had a fill your own type system going.
  15. We have one of theres it dose a great job, pretty much just set and forget
  16. Any way how are you going to stop the non organic bees flying in for a look, i had hives on an organic vine yard, had to use organic mite treatment, that didnt work well the weather was also cold and wet, lose to many bees so now its back to using what i want
  17. we were on the NP1 which did cost some thing like $575.00 ish, then after nine months we had to change to NP2 because we cream honey, but now we can make pickles etc, we weren't charged for the change
  18. yep both hives look normal to me, just need to build up in numbers, we still have all our entrance reducers on due to the large a mount of mice/wasps around still, have lost alot of good frames though mice damage being to slow putting reducers on, wildflower don't keep beating yourself up saying ur a poor beekeeper, look at is as a learning curve,, at the end of the day ur bees are going to survive so long as they have food, and varroa treatment and room they will pretty much do the rest
  19. yep they are good, i have one the same
  20. We are still getting a lot of wasps in some of our hives, every hive now has a reducer on, never stopped seeing wasps this year.
  21. theres always the packet of 2 minute noddles if you want a change.
