  2. Splash out and buy a nice shiny book that can live on your kitchen table. You'll end up referring to it lots. And as soon as you start buying other beekeeping stuff you'll probably think the $44.95 is good value !

  3. The bees will cover the frames and the inside of the boxes with both wax and propolis. Do you have a copy of Practical Beekeeping in NZ by Matheson & Reid ? It's compulsory .

  5. I do not believe they will have a dipper. In fact I do not know of any bee club with that sort of facility. Too expensive and too dangerous to use.

  8. Unfortunately the soil in my paddocks is too acidic for white clover and summers too hot and dry for white clover. Our pastures in south west wa are primarily sub clover and rye grass so no good for bees. That is excepting the cape weed pollen. Have noticed that they work the crimson clover more in the mornings.

If anyone is interested in collecting swarms from wherever you are situated in the country, your best bet is to notify your local council offices that you are a willing beekeeper to collect swarms that are reported to them. Every year or so I update my details with the Dunedin City Council and express my willingness to collect swarms. Many people ring the council first when a swarm arrives on their property. The council then rings or texts me with an address, name of property owner and contact number and I follow it up. It is a cheap way of increasing hive numbers. All I need to have is
