Hi Trev, does having such a powerful hive in and amongst other smaller hives, say like small nucs pose any risk to the other hives over time??

It can do. However, every apiary has somewhat similar problems with uneven strength of hives. I do not mix my NUC's with Full hives once the honey is off and robbing starts. As long as a hive is queen right then it is usually safe.

Yes [USER=3597]@Jezza[/USER]. That is part of the reason I get a tad annoyed when people say "my bees are so quite I don't need smoke" When a hive is up to full strength then you need smoke to get the bees to do what you want. Smoke is your beekeeping best friend.
