Cockroach egg case from a Gisborne cockroach. They tend to live on the outside of hives and the only real problems they cause are when they lay there egg cases onto thin super foundation comb honey frames as the bees can't remove them and for some reason people don't like eating them. You can see them through the honey when you hold it up to the light but they just looked like pollen. This type of cockroach is not a health risk, they are just a bit unpleasant in most people's eyes. There's not really anything you can do about them as anything that will kill them will also kill your bees.

I've eaten one once, it was very crunchy. Wouldn't recommend it.
