NZBF The hum of a happy hive. ( When do I check my caged queens?)

Recommended Posts

In 3 days I have been a bee keeper for one year.

My first October has been very eventful.

My hive lost it's queen. Bees made lots of cells. I did my first split. Then split again.

Only two cells hatched and both in same hive.

Yesterday I won an auction for two queen bees on TM

This morning I introduced two new queens.

Hive 1 had to be revamped. Tons of bees, but had to find every bit of unhatched brood left and placed a queen in middle.

Hive 1 still a bit grumpy But no where near as grumpy as last week ☺

Hive 2 When I put the queen in, the bees went immediately into purr mode.

The warm comforting hum of a happy hive.

What fun.

When do I go check my new queens?

Quietly and gently Peek in in 2 days time to make sure the queen is released, ie check the cage is empty, then leave alone for a week

I leave the check for 3 days and if the queen is not out, then I release her. Leave for 2 weeks and then do a normal check.

Well done on your first queen introduction.

It's possibly a bit sad when your favourite piece of clothing is your bee suit!

Thanks Trev. I am rather excited really. O.K. REALLY excited. my:bee:
