NZBF Lots of drones and drone brood - need new queen

Recommended Posts

Took advantage of the mild weather today to check my hive - lots of bees but lots of drones and drone brood so I'm thinking I may need to requeen - suggestions please. This was a captured swarm.

depends on what you call a lot of bees.

wait to long there won't be enough left to be worth putting a queen in.

What does a lot of drone brood look like? I mean, is there a percentage of a frame that is acceptable/unacceptable?

@Beerad if all your cells are raised (drone) then it's highly likely that you have a Dronelayer. At this time of year this is probably not good for the longevity of your colony.

I cut away quite a lot and will check hive again between this Sunday and Wednesday depending on weather to determine how much more brood is capped and how much of it is drone
