Amitraz toxicity

Recommended Posts

The statement was made the other day that amitraz is regarded as carcinogenic in humans.

I have tried searching for information, and found only negative risk assessments.

Does anyone have information about positive risk assessments ?

Thanks.

I don't understand the terminology of positive / negative risk assessments.

20 seconds of googling produced this :Assessment of the adverse effects of the acaricide amitraz: in vitro evaluation of genotoxicity. - PubMed - NCBI

Which states amitraz has some genotoxicity which is a risk factor for carcinogenesis. Is this positive or negative ?

The US EPA has identified Amitraz as a "possible human carcinogen".

Cancer Classification: Group C Possible Human Carcinogen

[uSEPA Office of Pesticide Programs, Health Effects Division, Science Information Management Branch: "Chemicals Evaluated for Carcinogenic Potential" (April 2006)] **PEER REVIEWED**

Data is from TOXNET - TOXNET

For me that puts it in the same risk factor of deep fried potato chips, which are also a possible carcinogen, depending on how they are cooked. Acrylamide

Agreed, "possible human carcinogen" is too vague to be of much use at this point.

Food colourings and other agents used in products at the supermarket are also possible human carcinogens.

@Alastair, we are up against them every day of the week.

Think that was @Daley & @Merk fault, not the licorice. Oh and maybe the Ministry of follow the bad role models.

By positive risk I meant something bad about the agent.

Whereas, by negative risk I meant either nothing bad or just lack of information i.e. amitraz has no more risk than licorice.

Do you a deal I'll eat the licorice and you can have the Amitraz and we will see who wins
