Honey into Australia

Recommended Posts

Had a good trip over on Friday and enjoyed going through the border after declaring 2 pots of honey.

The officer was told, "my usual 2 pots" and I had the stringent inspection of "clean is it ?", ireplied "yup" and she said "go through, have a nice stay".

And enjoyed my older grandson enjoying some choc eggs, pancakes and my Harbour Cone honey, and I had to have some as well.

Happy time.

Oh, and I got some Leatherwood honey yesterday, delicious ...

Will get some yellow box in a day or two.

Maybe bring a couple of pots back with me on thiscoming Friday.

You could tell it was a windup when they said leatherwood was nice, that stuff tastes worse than manuka

Pretty sure it's anywhere except WA

I love complex honeys, but not moonooka which tastes medicinal. Our kanuka is caramel and delicious mpi tested 3 pots last year and I'll publish results when I am back. Needless to say profile excellent and could be sold as moonooka, not that I would do that nonense.

And I'll include my definition of "kanuka".

That's interesting

I have heard that about leatherwood but it is such a renowned honey I was not sure what to believe

Is it in the taste family of thyme ,honey dew etc

Maybe a bit like good kanuka.

Just a taste of its own, good after taste, and lovely mouth feel.

We have a Eucryphia in the garden which has the scent and gets covered with honey and humble bees, dangerous to sniff the blooms ...

I sent some honey with nephew to Aussie yesterday, his mother-in-law told him it was the best honey she'd ever tasted last year. Obviously them Aussies need some tasty honey over there.

Mel = honey

Odora = odour, scent

Save for an "e", it could have been quite a stink!

Went to my first AFL game at the mcg yesterday, great sport, great game, like being in the Coliseum, just no lions. Amazing skills and athletes, big boys in the air.

I have been to a real bull fight in Barcelona many years ago, more blood and more death, as exciting.

So it's worth coming over for the honey, footie and cricket ...
