Sweetbox, Lincoln, flowering from 18th August.

Very heavily scented (can smell it from 10 meters) and covered in bees. Plant prefers shade but is very fragrant when warmed by the sun. Weather = first warm spell after snow.

Cabbage trees in the Waikato flowering profusely this year - wonderful scent and covered in bees. An excellent spring source of nectar and pollen from late Oct thru to early Dec :)

Thanks Marcia and welcome to the NZ Beekeepers forum

They're not out at our place yet, though I've seen them flowering in sunnier parts of Dunedin.

Now that is interesting. It would seem that there is a marked delay in cabbage tree flowering times as one travels south. I wonder if this is due to the average climate at each reporting station, or is it because of local weather conditions.... what else anyone?
