I think our Carny/Itlaian hybrid New Zealand bees need a scientific name.

Apis Melifera .......................?

Any suggestions:)

So far I have only heard them being called mutts!

how about Apis Melifera Apteryx

Kiwi Honey Bees :D

That would be good but...

the genus "apteryx" is from Greek and means "not having a wing" - or something like that.

So these would have to be flightless bees...

Scientists would probably go with the old standard for species from our part of the word - Apis Melifera Australis

Australis being Latin for southern or of the south.

But then they sound like Aussie bees.

Does it need to be Latin?

I am liking "A.M. Novazealandiae".

Like Carny bees we could call them Nova bees for short.

Any takers or other suggestions?

Why Nova? Means cataclysmic nuclear explosion according to Wikipedia? It does sound good though
