Hmm not sure I see anything worth reporting recently.

The latest article about partnering with a couple of beekeepers who catch swarms and rent a hive to “ save the bees” is hardly news worthy and is really probably just a publicity stunt rather than anything actually beneficial to bees or other beekeepers.
it’s weird how Comvita partner up or JV with companies that don’t cut the mustard and have to be written down after a couple of years.

True .... I don't understand it either. They partnered with a west coast bee company a few years ago .... big fanfare ..... west coast development sunk a couple of hundred thousand in, Comvita a couple of million ..... couple of years later, little snippet in the paper that the company had been wound up.

Some people have too much money and some people have too much spin and some people are just plain ignorant.

Human nature is a funny thing .....

You got the workersand  the dreamers. You got  those with vision  and those that jump on the band wagon.

The bee industry has seen it all in the last few years.

We ourselves have seen it all in the last few years.

The visionaries and big thinkers that came in with bottomless cheque books and promised the earth have scuttled back to whence they came and left those they sweet talked scratching their heads and trying to figure out what the heck happened.

The eloquent talkers have taken the money and run and forgotten the reason they got into the industry.

And the fly by nighters wanting a quick buck should have flown by now with their quick buck.

Which  leaves the ones with passion to stand steadfastly, holding the line .... trusting that in time the turmoil will settle, and  that once again .... All will be good.

Does anyone have access to this article ?

Just wondering what it’s about ?

It's (misleading/click bait) title is "Bay of Plenty manuka honey exporter Comvita eyes up new industry"

It's mostly generic fluff about Comvita, occasioned due to promoting Bee Aware Month, and the headlined "new industry" "is the manuka plantations and cultivar programme that has been running for 12 years.

That is so true, even more so with acquisitions.

Comvita's made many acquisitions over the past 20 years, of products outside their core bee products range, and other 'investments', sunk lots of $$$, all of which have destroyed shareholder equity; most of which sunk without a trace.

And then you could look at the many, many, many millions of dollars wasted on new product development, marketing, advertising, supply chain costs etc. of loss making new products that were quickly deleted...

About 20 years ago the General Manager, when discussing the annual profit result with the staff, asked me if the shareholder could have got a better result by placing his investment in the bank. The answer then was yes and it probably would have been every year since then too, at least in aggregate. Too bad for most of the subsequent shareholders, who have seen a significant erosion of shareholder value and financial under performance.

But I'm not saying anything you don't already know...
