September 2019 Apiary Diary

Recommended Posts

Spring has sprung.

The ducks are all paired up and walking all over the roadways and trying to find a place to nest.

The bees are into the pollen and getting ready for the big expansion.

Have a great season everyone and try to keep the swarming under control.

I’m going to be proactive on two fronts this year... better swarm prevention. And bait hives for when I fail at swarm prevention

Jamesc, you should be taking tourists around your back yard, with a night in your hut and a meal of wild food drizzled with local honey. might help with that folding note?

Hmmm ..... We've thought about it for sure  .....  I'm not great with people .....I tend to get a bit lippy after a while ! ONe things for sure, it's been a stunningly beautifull day.   The old mares's name is Jimmy ..... she can be a B ...... the big hill sorted her.

And as they say, 'The best thing for the inside of a man is the outside of a horse !'

And anyway , i have another cunning plan that's gonna take a little time, but it's so cunning that ......

Even Adam might be impressed !

As cunning as getting the young fellah to rode the mare first.

Sounds like a great story.  When can I book a ride on a quiet horse that walks and carries me?  Cos I was bitten as a little nipper at the Ashton's  circus by a mare with a full set of teeth and foal, I have shied away from horses.  But it is now on the bucket list is to have a ride on a good natured horse. Of course could really be tempted with lovely food, not to mention company, a good wine etc.  Might even whip up a culinary delight myself for the occasion. Could be worth a good photo or two, laugh or a yarn!

Have absolutely no idea.  But there is always a first time to attempt things

It can burn easily .

Add rosewater and lemon to the syrup

Use filo pastry in prerolled sheets .

As long as you drizzle it with Speights, should all be good, regardless of the recipe you use.

Few of my ladies starved/died. In one case the queen was walking alone on the frame(maybe 50 bees in the hive).

I have to feed next week. And the new staples are in so I want to see how they expand.

Staples wont help
What you need is a miracle

The way the weather is playing out I doubt my Hives will have much of their 2-3 overwinter boxes of stores left by October.

Sure beats buying sugar

I harvested under 25kgs of honey per hive last season and so far I've fed 25kgs of sugar syrip so I'm feeding more than I'm getting now days.

And the DWV bees are both crawling under their own steam and being involuntarily thrown out of half my hives. Bother.
