Whanganui bee business unaffected by export prices...   https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/115129335/beebased-business-protects-keepers-from-poor-prices

while its a nice positive story it doesn't say everything. they are not making a living off 6 tonnes of honey. like all shops they will be buying it in. they are a local retailer and retail

As long as it meets the MPI standard for Manuka honey it’s manuka honey. The UMF number is irrelevant, as the beekeepers producing UMF 15 and classed as non Manuka well know.

they are a local retailer and retail is where the mark up is.

however nz of course makes substantial more honey than it consumes so you can only sell local if everyone else exports.

which also means you can get absolutely screwed if the local market gets flooded with cheap honey and thats happened before.

if anything the story highlights that primary produces get screwed while retailers do ok.

If they selling Manuka UMF3 then yes "Customers can meet the beekeeper and know that the product that they're purchasing is authentic." wink wink

If you have a very high umf honey mixed with other honey, you can get a umf 15 but the other honeys make it not pass the mpi test.

But anyone please show me a test that has a umf3 as a mono manuka.

Now it could only be a terrible reporter and they did not mention that perhaps it was a multi manuka.
