Whats this?.

Recommended Posts

Was out with the camera this afternoon (after getting home from the SNIBeekeepers fielday), and was taking some photos of the bees on the Lacebarks, I didn't notice the small black bee when I was photographing the Bumblebee until I loaded the pics on to the computer.

What I noticed was the brown round object on the black bee and it looks almost varroa like, does anyone have any idea as to what it may bee.

The second insect is a fly rather than a bee, probably a kind of hoverfly but hard to tell for sure from the picture.

The brown round 'object' is part of the fly, from memory this part at the posterior of the top of the thorax is called the scutellum.

Thanks for the answer.
