Recommended Posts

Hi I've been asked if there is any local bee keepers in the area that are looking for a spot they have just brought a 16 acres block

Maraikakaho  is already overstocked to the point of insanity with at least three large apiarys sites within 1 km. It used to be reasonable production country provided you kept your apiary small as there are a very limited number of flowers over summer because it is very drought prone.

Yeah it’s pretty chocka around here, my base is in the middle of it and TBH I have a handful of hives at home but no production hives anywhere nearby.  We seem to have plenty of food in spring but this area dries out and can run out of food from Christmas when everything burns off, so have a good hard look at food sources and other hives around the block if you expect to make honey from it.
