Central Otago is lovely in winter and apparently was perfect for the Brass Monkey rally, too.

Can one enjoy the scenery when one is part of the landscape.

Or does one have to be inside in a  warm space viewing it through a window .

I tootled along one cool year, and being the highly experienced back country camper I am I took one look while driving by Oturehua and thought flipping heck I'm not camping anywhere near that lot  and roared back to Palmerston Pub where I enjoyed the fire, a huge steak, and only me and the barmaid in the place.

My inlaws used to live at Becks and yes, you can enjoy it when the sun is out, but not much after that. You have to enjoy it quickly, though.  And if you get several days of freezing fog it's really horrible.
