AFB infected gear via trade me - a good news outcome

That is true but the migrants often do not check their hives all season .

If they found it back at their yard it may not occur to them to tell me a hive that have been 200 metres from mine had AFB .

If they are good beekeepers they should be checking before they harvest their honey

No idea where it could be.  With the October alert I heard through the grapevine that it was a in a commercial apiary around Saddle Hill.  I had an inspection from an AP2 last week and he was doing quite a few around the area.  Maybe it was he who found it.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it
Imagine if the majority of cases were reported, you'd be a nervous wreck with a bulging letterbox

^ agree. In some ways the warnings are redundant. an alert shouldn't really make much, if any, difference to our monitoring and inspection regimes unless we're #### beekeepers

I had the dreaded letter once a few years ago but the AFB, while fairly close,  turned out to be on the other side of Mt Cargill, which was somewhat comforting.

Edit: just looked on Apiweb, having sorted out the password issue by asking for another new one and using that.  My apiary is in red: within 3km of AFB.  :61_sob:

I’ve always got apiarys in the red.

Haven’t had to burn any yet.

Makes no odds to me I just assume if they’re not in the red it’s because people are liars

I agree. The notification should not really make any difference.  Just do your normal inspections.  Be vigilant always.

Strangely I have 1 aviary not in the red and I reported an AFB at that site 18 months previously. It never turned red when I reported it.  Go figure.

I would be worried if you did have an aviary in the red

Never had a ABF case
The Feds will be knocking on my door soon to find out why I haven't reported any, I know they are suspicious of such outfits.
What irks me is they will likely invoice me for the audit which will find zilch.

I put it down to a combination of isolation and hives that sit unmoved from on year to the next.

ABF

Apiary Bird Flu?

Has Trev done a video on that yet?

Maybe it gets cured by isolation?
