Actually it does. And it can close public access to it.

How can you say it owns the land .

It administers a public estate .

The crown owns the land , that's you and me .

I'm being constantly hassled by a tiny wild kitten my partner brought home from a honey run. He was driving a load of honey up to the station for extraction, when he noticed a kitten on the side of th

All harvesting completed.  A good harvest this season. Bees all wintered down.   Varroa treatments in. The bees are looking great.  Heaps of bees in every hive.  All queen right and top

Checking hives for the first half of the day. Pleased to see some new honey in the hives. There is up to 7 frames of brood in the hives and packed with nice looking healthy bees. Adjusted the location

In an idle momment I delved deeper .  Beehives for financial gain on DOC land need a concession. DOC generate an income in excess of $17m from concession royalties ....  infringements are liable to a category 3 charge under the justice system, the penalty for which is either a $300,000 fine or life imprisonment. It would seem that DOC are one of the most powerfull agencies in the country, and yet they are "financed" by the Gvt that we , the people of NZ voted , or not, into power.

Not  member of public, rather a commercial entity operating outside the terms of their permit.......

I move a hive onto doc land sometimes in the winter.

I am not expecting to be sued

DOC is a really big land owner in golden bay .

It can barely administer its estate and relies on the good will and co operation of the local community .

make that "underfinanced"

Totally agree - I see your wooden spoon so add the below.

Currently many huts and trails are being maintained by volunteers all over the country and this doesn’t seem right to me. DOC have a truely vast area to maintain, and the budget doesn’t cover proper maintenance and care of the area. 17 million is a lot of money, but it is a drop in the ocean when you consider that their total budget is just shy of half a billion. And while that seems massive, have a look at the area they are supposed to maintain, restore and protect. It is vast. 30% of visitors to NZ visit at least one National Park. Gets you thinking of potential way of increasing the doc budget without hitting New Zealander’s pockets doesn’t it?

I’ve had fantastic times on great doc trails and at their huts and I love what they do - though I see a different side of them to anyone dealing with them commercially.

I sent an email to our local doc office this year complaining about hives placed illegally on doc land and they didn't even bother to reply although a local landowner who was badly affected by these hives was told by a doc officer that the hives were beside a river and within the Queen's chain and thus not docs problem. These hives were put in with helicopters and the one site I could see was definitely well out of the Queen's chain leaving me to speculate on why they won't act.

That makes me less worried about about my hive on doc land.

I am surprised DOC did not act.

If that happened here local beeks would March into the DOC  office and kick up a big stink .

if you want something to happen on this, i recommend forwarding the email to one of the generic contact us DoC email addresses, cc api-nz, nathan guy, and a couple of media outlets. Include the commentary in your post above. Add the term corruption, that should get things rolling
