Bees want rainy weather to buzz off

Recommended Posts

This is a story about the birds and the bees, farmers - and miserable January weather.

Taieri-based Rentahive co-founder, beekeeper and bee breeder Murray Rixon said it had probably been the worst summer for beekeepers in living memory. Some in coastal parts of Otago had collected less than half the usual amount of honey.

It sure has been rainy here in coastal Otago. Rain everyday or two and mainly cool and windy. Not a good year for bees doing their thing or warm weather gardening! Fingers crossed for more than 1 day of nice weather.

Except the wind, I was standing 5 metres left of a hive today and when the wind gusts came I was getting hit by bees trying to make their way home.
