This month the first report from the most extensive study of honey bee health has been published. EPILOBEE is an epidemiological survey devised by The European Reference Laboratory (EURL) and employed a standardised methodology in 17 European countries. It used approximately 1350 bee inspectors to visit 31,832 colonies three times before and after the winter of 2012-2013 and collect data on beekeeping practices and colony health. In all, almost 104,000 laboratory samples were taken.
