Method of making an artificial swarm without finding queens

What's New in Version 2013-11-08

One of the things beginners often find difficult is finding queens, and so making an artificial swarm to control swarming is something they avoid. I think it is better that newbies are able to manage swarming behaviour from the outset while they are mastering the skills that will eventually refine the process, rather than have to put up with unmanaged swarms until they eventually acquire more advanced skills. With a little modification we can make artificial swarms and unite the colonies without ever having to find the queen. The method described in the article explains how to do just that. It may take a bit longer, but it is better than not being able to do it at all. It may be useful to read this together with the 'Letters' on swarms posted in the Blogs and Articles section: Letters: Swarm Management according to Winston | NZ Beekeepers Forum Letters: Understanding Swarm Prevention | NZ Beekeepers Forum Letters: After tea; Swarm Control Workshop | NZ Beekeepers Forum
